Reference

There are four types of references that can be made between ElementClasses:

  • Association Reference: the most basic, just for linking
  • Composition Reference: create parent-child relationships between ElementClasses
  • Aggregation Reference: grouping several other elements into a whole
  • Extension Reference: reverse composition, parent has no knowledge of the child

Defining references

  • Owner: The owner elementClass is the one you define the reference from.
  • Target: The target elementClass to which this reference refers.
  • Cardinality: defines the lower and upper bound on how many instances of the target may be linked from a single instance of the owner, via minimum and maximum.
  • Opposite Reference: to be defined in a composition reference.
