Core elements

At NSX, we developed a set of modeling concepts that can be used to model any enterprise applicationApplicationThe overarching model container grouping all components, domain logic, and configurations for an enterprise solution. in any domain. These concepts, or so-called elements, are the foundation of the applicationApplicationThe overarching model container grouping all components, domain logic, and configurations for an enterprise solution. and serve as a base for generating all code and all functionality.

Modelling NS ApplicationsNS Application (NSApplication). A pre-built software stack that provides common enterprise application functionality such as CRUD, search, authentication, and business process modeling out of the box. starts from two core concepts. On the one hand, the applicationApplicationThe overarching model container grouping all components, domain logic, and configurations for an enterprise solution. is modelled starting from data models, translated into Data ElementsData Element (DataElement). A fundamental data concept or entity within an application's domain, acting as an anthropomorphic translation of a real-life object or concept.. On the other hand, modelling the applicationApplicationThe overarching model container grouping all components, domain logic, and configurations for an enterprise solution. processes is done in workflow models. Task Elements are gathered in workflows, which are state machines.

Core elements

Data elementsData Element (DataElement). A fundamental data concept or entity within an application's domain, acting as an anthropomorphic translation of a real-life object or concept. allow you to define the most important data concepts within your domain.

Workflows and task elements define the business processes.

Components group elements into independent sections, improving the structure of your applicationApplicationThe overarching model container grouping all components, domain logic, and configurations for an enterprise solution.. By defining multiple components, concerns are more clearly separated.

Many more element types will be introduced in the next sections. These will always build upon one of the core concepts.

A Car Rental Example

An example shows how an applicationApplicationThe overarching model container grouping all components, domain logic, and configurations for an enterprise solution. supporting a car rental business could be modeled using these elements.
