Model Transmutations

Model Transmutations let you modify or update your model automatically, using transmuters. Where validations serve the model by finding issues, transmutations serve the model by generating repetitive or automatic content.

Transmuters are designed to be idempotent: running the same transmuter again after further changes to the model only applies what's still needed, without reverting anything you've done by hand in the meantime. That makes them safe to rerun any time your model evolves, rather than something you run once and forget.

Like validation rules, transmuters are packaged as expansion-resources, so different sets can be bundled and distributed independently. They're extensible: teams can implement their own transmuters using the same contracts as the built-in ones.

Some exemplary use cases:

  • Create a DataElement needed for a feature to work
  • Configure your models with a certain recommended feature
  • Automatically create useful model additions, such as FindersFinderA search specification combining field-operator pairs to execute standard data queries on a DataElement.
